Grasses of South Australia - An Illustrated guide to the native and naturalised species by John Jessop, Gilbert R. M. Dashorst and Fiona M. James provides valuable information for everyone, whatever their expertise, with an interest in grasses, including people living and working in rural areas as well as those involved in conservation and revegetation.

In this book, for the first time in Australia, all of a State's grasses have been carefully drawn to show their important features. In addition to more than 450 line drawings, there are 20 paintings illustrating typical members of each of the tribes.

Descriptions, along with the illustrations and keys, provide the essential information to confirm the identity of each grass. There are ecological notes provided by many field workers and a brief statement of distribution, including the plant's occurrence elsewhere in Australia and overseas.

In recent years there has been an enormous growth in interest in grasses for agricultural and horticultural purposes. After South Australia's Native Grass Resources Group identified a need by land managers for up-to-date information, the State Herbarium of South Australia agreed to undertake the preparation of this handbook.
