In 2017 Australia was ranked 2nd globally for biodiversity loss. Figures have recording a biodiversity loss of between 5 and 10 per cent of the total global decline. It is estimated over the last 200 years important ecosystems that have been lost include nearly 90% of temperate woodlands and mallee; more than 99% of south-eastern Australia’s temperate lowland grasslands; over 83% of Tasmania’s lowland grasslands and grassy woodlands; and over 90% of Victoria’s grasslands.
Restoration of Australia’s grasslands is not only the domain of local and state government, but also the backyard warrior. Here at Native Seeds, we produce our key grass varieties though an agricultural production system. This means that you have access to the seed you need to attract wildlife, or restore grasslands without depleting the seedbank of natural areas.
